The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
