The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
