The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he beheld, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
