The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
