The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
