The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 For We have caused none but angelic powers to lord over the fire [of hell]; and We have not caused their number to be aught but a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth - to the end that they who have been granted revelation aforetime might be convinced [of the truth of this divine writ]; and that they who have attained to faith [in it] might grow yet more firm in their faith; and that [both] they who have been granted the earlier revelation and they who believe [in this one] might be freed of all doubt; and that they in whose hearts is disease and they who deny the truth outright might ask, "What does [your] God mean by this parable?" In this way God lets go astray him that wills [to go astray,] and guides aright him that wills [to be guided]. And none can comprehend thy Sustainers forces save Him alone: and all this is but a reminder to mortal man. 31
