The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
