The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
