In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and give warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 Pollution shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! He looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
