The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
