The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
