The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
