The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
