The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
