The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
