The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
