The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
