The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
