No! By the moon 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 A warning to mortals, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 who will be in Paradise 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
