By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 it is a warning to man, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 who will be in Paradise 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 until death approached us". 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
