No, by the moon! 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to humans, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 Except those of the right hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 we fed not the needy, 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
