Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 A warning to mortals, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 About the guilty: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
