Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 A warning to mankind, 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 About the criminals, 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Till death overtook us. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
