I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
