Nay, and by the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Of evil-doers: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing from a lion! 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
