Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection 1 Nay! I swear by the self-accusing soul. 2 What, does man reckon We shall not gather his bones? 3 We certainly have the power to restore them even the very tips of their finger. 4 Yet man is sceptical of what is right before him. 5 He asks: "When will the Day of Resurrection be?" 6 When the eye is bewildered, 7 And the moon will be eclipsed. 8 and the sun and the moon are brought together 9 On that Day shall man say: whither is the fleeing. 10 But there is nowhere to take refuge: 11 The only place of refuge will be with God. 12 Upon that day man shall be told his former deeds and his latter; 13 nay, man shall be a clear proof against himself, 14 Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds). 15 Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it. 16 Surely on Us (devolves) the collecting of it and the reciting of it. 17 So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation. 18 and then, it will be for Us to make its meaning clear. 19 Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now 20 and are heedless of the Everlasting Life. 21 On that day, some faces will shine with freshness. 22 looking up to their Sustainer; 23 And (other) faces on that day shall be gloomy, 24 In the thought that some back-breaking calamity was about to be inflicted on them; 25 Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit), 26 And there will be a cry, "Who is a magician (to restore him)?" 27 And he will realise that this is the parting. 28 And affliction is combined with affliction; 29 on that Day he will be driven towards your Lord! 30
