Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness the Day of Resurrection! 1 But nay! I call to witness the accusing voice of man's own conscience! 2 Does man think that We shall not gather his bones? 3 Yes indeed; We have the power to remould even his finger-tips. 4 Nay! man desires to give the lie to what is before him. 5 asking, 'When shall be the Day of Resurrection?' 6 So when the eyes will be blinded by light. 7 And the moon is eclipsed 8 and the sun and the moon are brought together, 9 On that day man will cry out, “Where shall I flee?” 10 By no means! there shall be no place of refuge! 11 Before thy Lord (alone), that Day will be the place of rest. 12 On that Day the human shall be informed of his former and latter deeds. 13 Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness, 14 in spite of all the excuses he may offer. 15 Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an. 16 for, behold, it is for Us to gather it [in thy heart,] and to cause it to be read [as it ought to be read]. 17 But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its recital (as promulgated): 18 and then, behold, it will be for Us to make its meaning clear. 19 Nay! But you love the present life, 20 And you have forsaken the Hereafter. 21 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 22 looking up to their Sustainer; 23 And on that day some faces will be ghastly. 24 certain of facing a great calamity. 25 Nay! When it comes up to the throat, 26 And men say: Where is the wizard (who can save him now)? 27 And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation 28 And anguish will be heaped upon anguish: 29 upon that Day the driving shall be to your Lord. 30
