Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection. 1 Nay! I swear by the self-accusing soul. 2 What, does man reckon We shall not gather his bones? 3 Indeed yes, We are able to shape his fingerstips yet again! 4 In fact man wishes to commit evil in front of Him! 5 He asks: “When will the Day of Resurrection be?” 6 Yet when the eyes are dazzled, 7 and the moon is eclipsed, 8 And the sun and moon are conjoined, 9 on that Day will man exclaim "Whither to flee?" 10 Certainly not! There will be no place of refuge. 11 Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day. 12 Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back. 13 Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness, 14 Although he tender his excuses. 15 Do not move your tongue with it (the Revelation) to hasten it. 16 It's gathering and reciting is upon Us. 17 Therefore when We have recited it, follow its recitation. 18 Again on Us (devolves) the explaining of it. 19 Human beings certainly do not want to pay much attention to the Quran. In fact, they love the worldly life 20 And leave the Hereafter. 21 How many faces will be refulgent on that Day, 22 and will be looking towards their Lord; 23 And how many faces on that Day will be woe-begone 24 Knowing that they will be subjected to a torment that breaks the backs. 25 But when [man's soul] reaches the throat, 26 And it is said, "Who will cure [him]?" 27 He will then realise it is the parting, 28 And one shin will curl up with the other shin. 29 To your Lord on that day shall be the driving. 30
