The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
