The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
