The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 The Kafoor is a spring, from which the chosen bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to flow wherever they wish inside their palaces. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
