The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Verily, the Abrar (pious, who fear Allah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafur. 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
