The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
