The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (poor), the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 And shall recompense them for that which they patiently bare with a Garden and silken garment. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
