The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
