The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
