The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 The night a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
