The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
