The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
