The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
