The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 It will be a place of return 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
