The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
