The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
