The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a fitting requital, 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
