The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
