The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the Great News 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
