The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
