The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 , A fitting reward. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
