The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
