The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a return for the insolent, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 , A fitting reward. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
